HOW TO DIY A STRIPED AND FLORAL OUTFIT
This week's theme is mixing stripes and floral. I've always loved prints so my wardrobe is quite full of them, which makes mixing prints almost a necessity – especially on laundry day! Stripes are a natural for mixing with florals. If you want to be a little more understated, either one can act as a "neutral". Or if you want to be a little more wild, choose a combination of bold prints.
Step 1: Today's inspiration is a sophisticated outfit made more fun by the mixed prints from J.Crew. The skirt is Collection No. 2 Pencil Skirt in Tossed Carnations made in silk (how luxurious!). The top is a classic elbow length crew neck t-shirt.
Step 2: For the top you could trace your favorite T-shirt and make your own pattern or a pre-fab pattern like Laura's patterns Top Pattern. To match our inspiration outfit, shorten the sleeves to just below the elbow. The skirt is another classic silhouette for which McCall's M6757 provides a great match.
Step 3 I love wearing silk crepe tops. I found this striped crepe de chine fabric from YTFFabric.com. For the skirt, I found this gorgeous floral print white color palette and colorful delicately painted flowers.
I think this outfit would look amazing on pretty much anyone. What do you think? Have you tried mixing stripes and florals this season?
